A fundraising initiative has been launched aimed at supporting charities through the challenging time bought about by the Coronavirus crisis. It is encouraging the general public to donate what they would normally spend on haircuts either to a charity of their choice or to the HaircutForCharity fundraising pot which will be split between any charities who register with the fund.
The initiative is the brainchild of m-hance CEO, Alan Moody, who noticed the increasing trend of people on social media talking about having to cut their hair at home during the Coronavirus lockdown.
Alan states: “m-hance has worked in the charity sector for many years, providing Microsoft technology solutions to many charitable organisations across the UK and Ireland. I was saddened at the effect the Coronavirus is having on the causes and missions of these charities and so was inspired to do something to help. Many charities rely on fundraising events and initiatives which cannot currently take place for obvious reasons – directly impacting the ability of these charities to raise funds. Whilst this is happening, across the nation, we are all having to stay at home to minimise the spread of Covid-19 and so are not spending the money we usually would on haircuts at barbers and hair salons. HaircutForCharity is simply encouraging those who are able to, to donate what they would normally spend on haircuts to charity.”
Whilst HaircutForCharity has a serious purpose, it’s secondary aim is to generate a little bit of fun for participants as well. With many people opting to cut their hair at home, the initiative is encouraging those who are to upload their before and after photos and videos to the dedicated social media accounts that have been set up across Twitter, TikTok, FaceBook, YouTube, LinkedIn and Instagram.
m-hance as an organisation is supporting the initiative but every penny that is raised through the fund will be split between the charities who register. So far, the fund is delighted to be supporting Age Action, Anthony Nolan and Edinburgh and Lothians Health Foundation. People wishing to donate to the fund can do so by visiting www.haircutforcharity.com.
